Some real estate licensees prefer to keep their license active but do not want to actively represent buyers or sellers in transactions. In these cases, many agents choose to operate as referral agents.

A referral agent does not handle the transaction directly. Instead, they connect a client with another licensed real estate professional and receive a referral fee when the transaction closes.

This arrangement allows licensees to maintain their real estate license while avoiding the time commitment, liability, and operational requirements associated with managing active transactions.
